Hardscapes
-
- What is hardscaping? Hardscaping is the installation of any hard material in the landscape. Typically its things like patios, walkways & walls. It can also be placing boulders or creating an outdoor kitchen.
There are many types of materials that are used in hardscape projects such as concrete pavers, clay bricks, bluestone, travertine, limestone, granite, fieldstone, & many more. When constructed properly, hardscape projects should last for years to come.
-
- Our staff here at Dave’s Landscape Management has extensive experience & training in installing pavers & walls of all types. Base preparation is the foundation of any lasting project. The removal of unsuitable material, installation of proper base material, proper compaction & leveling are essential before the first paver is laid. Once the pavers are installed they need to be cut, reinforced w/ an edge restraint & swept in with a polymer sand to lock them in tightly. Sealing them with a sealing product will give them a nice sheen & help protect them.
-
- Walls are constructed with stone or interlocking block. The same careful base preparation must be done for walls as for patios. Additionally however, special attention must be paid to proper drainage. Water behind a wall is the # 1 cause of failure so it is critical to get the drainage right the first time. Geogrid is placed behind walls to strengthen & help prevent them from falling over. If you build over 4’ tall, you’ll need a plan stamped by an engineer.
